Sri Lanka 2016 - Location 2, Day 2 - Anuradhapura

Ruwanwelisaya Dagoba

Ruwanwelisaya Dagoba, on the outskirts of the main ruins in Anuradhapura, was a great place to visit in the early morning hours when the light was low. Most of these temples and ruins are still active places of worship for the Buddhist monks and general public. You see the monks living within the area and walking among the grounds.

A Dagoba is the Sinhalese (Sri Lankan Language) name for the Buddhist stupa, a mound-like structure with relics, used by Buddhist monks to meditate.

For all the plain-air painters out there, you'll have to overlook my painting kit. ;-)

 Sayyad creating a masterpiece sketch.

A slideshow of the area's key elements. Serene, Joyous and respected.

Another wonderful breakfast served with Ceylon Tea.

Here's another treat. Egg Hoppers. There's a fried egg in the centre of the flour bowl along with luni miris (a fresh chilli and onion relish) and pol sambol. Deliciously different.   Reference & photo

You'll have the opportunity to learn new painting/drawing techniques while expanding your cultural knowledge.
