After staying in Anuradhapura for a few days, we decided to make a move.
We travelled between Anuradhapura and Kandy with a short stop in Sigiriya (Lion Rock). It's an ancient 600 foot rock fortress with the Palace ruins being situated on top. We were told that the king was carried to the top! Today there are metal stairs all the way to the top, but at that time, the task would have been monumental with the narrow wooden structure they would have constructed to reach the top.
The King Kasyapa (477 – 495 CE) built it as his palace and created a new capital city for himself. It's a must see/climb Unesco ruin.

We were unable to spend a full day here as we were on our travel day to Kandy. But we were able to capture many scenes that later became our inspiration as artists. The lotus flowers attract a lot of dragon flies and I was able to abstract this piece based on those ponds.
